Christmas at our house!

We finished up Vlogmas at our house by vlogging Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

Vlogging our Michigan trip!

So vlogging every day is a new thing for me, but it has been quite fun taking part in "Vlogmas" - vlogging every day on YouTube until Christmas (or the end of December - it seems to vary from person to person and we might actually just finish out the entire month)... Some of the videos I'm looking forward to having to look back on - to see how we decorated this year and that sort of thing, while I'm also thinking it will be great to have some firsts, like Natalie taking her first steps this month, on video to look back on as well.

We also vlogged our recent trip to Michigan - where we visited Somerset Collection mall, Great Lakes Crossing, downtown Rochester, and more. It was great to be back and sight see for a bit. Now we're back and with only one week left to go until the holidays are here... package wrapping and gearing up for the holiday festivities will be in full force!

2012 YouTube Year in Review

My YouTube Story and 2012 YouTube Year in Review... plus, a holiday Henri Bendel giveaway!!

I consider 2012 my "first" year on YouTube, even though I've had the account for a few years prior. I just started paying more attention to my YouTube account in the past year and steadily increased my uploads to where I now consistently upload 2-3 videos a week on my main channel. It has been an incredible experience and I never envisioned a year ago that could turn into what it has become!

I'm hosting a series of holiday giveaways on Bags4Bubbles' channel as a "thank you" for such a great first year on YouTube! Here's to a great second year in 2013 as well!

Louis Vuitton Multicolor Insolite Wallet Review

The Louis Vuitton Insolite wallet is a great large style wallet available from Louis Vuitton in monogram and multicolor prints. It also comes with a variety of interior options and is great to feel like you have a more "customized" wallet, rather than a plain colored one.

It opens up flat and holds 12 debit/credit or other cards - with two flat bill compartments, one interior coin area, and a large zippered area that is accessible without opening the rest of the wallet... Which is great for items you want quick access to!

So far, I'm really loving this wallet! It is easy to use and a great full-size wallet! The only cons I've found with the wallet so far is that is a lot more "exposed" than my previous Sarah style wallet, which felt more "private". The coin area on the Insolite also is not very user friendly and coins slide to one corner, which makes them hard to get to... a solution to that would be a separate coin change purse.

All in all, this wallet was a win for me and I'm enjoying it, and may even consider another one in the future!

My 2012 Sephora Friends & Family Sale Wishlist!

Here are a few things that I have my eye on for the upcoming Sephora VIB/Friends & Family sale (what will this be called?) - and I'm hoping that it is announced soon before my list grows any longer!

Korres Radiance Revealed Wild Rose Brightening Duo:

At $48, this set is a steal! You basically buy the cream and get the wash for free. I've been enjoying my Wild Rose eye cream by Korres, so I'm looking forward to trying other items from the Wild Rose line!

Bobby Brown Creamy Concealer Kit:

I've been needing a replacement concealer for my now discontinued Sephora creamy concealer that I use under my eyes since I've almost run out - and this seems like it should do the trick!

Tarina Taratino Fuschia Brush set:

They're pretty! They're pink! They seem functional! Need I say anymore?

Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes eyeliner in Shimmering Plum:

I've been wanting a nice purple shade eyeliner for quite a bit, and this seems like it will be perfect!

Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lipstick in Antique Pink:

My favorite lipstick by Too Faced (Lip of Luxury in Free Love) has now been discontinued as well, so I'm on the hunt for a suitable new favorite. This may take some searching, but this Laura Mercier shade does look lovely.

Philosophy Full of Fortune Cookie Shower Gel:

My all time favorite Philosophy shower gel, which is limited edition and I'm just waiting for it be discontinued since I love it so much! I might have to get two just in anticipation of it no longer being available!

And that is the general gist of it! There always seems to be a few changes right before I submit my yearly sale order - but these are the things that I'm thinking about the most right now!

We take on IKEA!

Our shopping day at IKEA! We got some Christmas shopping done and got some cute finds!

Sephora VIB Friends & Family Sale - VIB 20% off!!

Well, with the confusion that was the Sephora October Friends & Family sale over... (Which was limited to "actual" friends and family this year, unlike previous years where it was a free for all and anyone could use a code...) VIBs are axiously checking their mail boxes and email inboxes for the rumored 20% off VIB sale (comparable to past public Sephora F&F sales that were held during this time of year) to begin...

It is rumored to start around November 8th for VIBs only and I'm not sure where that leaves regular Beauty Insiders this year, although as a VIB myself I do feel it would be nice to have our own reward or slightly higher percentage off like they have done in the past. (For instance VIBs 20%, regular BI 10-15%...)

I'll be sure to post here and on Facebook once the sale is officially announced, but fingers crossed that November 8th is the day - because I have a Sephora wishlist a mile long that is growing by the day!

My current obsession!

I mentioned in a recent YouTube video that I'm currently obsessed with Longchamp - I'm planning on it being my "go to" bag for inclement weather this winter... Right now, I'm thinking of the lovely Bilberry color!

I also am still obsessed with Tory Burch flats this year and I'm hoping to add to my Tory Burch shoe collection with another pair of Eddie flats:

And these gorgeous purple Revas:

I'm also still obsessed with Bond No. 9 frangrances (for a year and still going strong!) - I've decided that this will be the year! I'm finally breaking down and going for a Bond fragrance during Christmas time... I'm leaning towards Scent of Peace now.

A Pumpkin Patch Do-Over!

Since our first attempt at going to a pumpkin patch was a rain out, we had a pumpkin patch do-over day this weekend! It was lots of fun!

The girls got to see a lot of different activities, but I do believe the petting zoo was the favorite event!

It was a great day and we finally got to see some pumpkins in great Autumn weather!

Our rainy day at the pumpkin patch!

We attempted to check out a pumpkin patch this week... but unfortunately it was rained out. We were supposed to be meeting a mom's group there for a fun kids day and the day that was blocked out in our schedule happened to be the worst day weather wise to be outside! (Isn't that always the way?) I already had the kids loaded up in the car and ready to go - when the mom's group event was canceled... but I decided to still go over and check it out, to see if we should plan a family day there on a weekend when Daddy could go with us.

Here's our day in the life, of pumpkin patches (sort of), and running errands!

Cupcake got to pick out some cute small pumpkins for Peanut and herself!

At least I got a few fun indoor pictures of their matching Halloween outfits!

A 2 year old version of "Cheese!"...

Tarte Carried Away Collector's Set Review!

I've enjoyed this collector's set from Tarte so much, that I had to review it and share my favorite parts of this set!

All around, it is just an incredibly great value - 24 shadows and 8 deluxe sample size glosses would be well worth the $54 retail price... but with the additional deluxe sample size blush, full sized face brush, deluxe sample mascara, deluxe sample finishing powder, & great travel bag that is included... It makes me feel fortunate that I paid as little for the set as I did!

There are a number of stand out shadows in the palette...

- From the purple quad: Boston Brick, Spanish sangria, & Napa grapes - beautiful and unique purple tones that blend nicely together

- From the top right quad: Pearl River - a gorgeous base color that looks great all over the lid and up to the brow; Seychelles Sand - a matte gray with a hint of taupe that is great for layering

- From the top left quad: snowfall in Paris - lovely cream with a hint of gold shimmer that is great as a base or highlight; pyramid gold - subtle gold tone tan that looks lovely on the lid

- From the bottom left quad: Iceland Air, Mystic Seaport, & concrete jungle - combine for a stunning blue tone look

The shadows have above average staying power - especially when combined with my NARS Pro Prime eyeshadow primer - and I'm happy with the pigmentation in all of my favorite shadows. There are one or two shadows that I feel aren't as wearable or maybe don't have much pigmentation - but honestly, for 20 out of the 24 shadows to be winners is an overall win in my book!

And in my opinion, all of the glosses are great... not too sticky, great consistency, and moderate staying power. My favorites are the colors with a bit of shimmer to them - but all of the colors have been winners to me. I especially like them over the Dior Addict lipstick, Pink Cherie.

Also with this set, you get three deluxe sample sized products: Smooth Operator finishing powder; Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara; and Adventurous Blush (shimmering rose).

The Tarte face brush included is a full size and decent quality - I've especially liked using it to apply the  blush from the set. The Adventurer bag that the set is housed in is pretty good quality and is laid out well for travel. It has a large mirror on the inside so that you could put everything you need to do your makeup in the bag and finish it while on the go!

I think this set would make a great gift for anyone that loves makeup and is perfect if you're wanting to try out multiple items from the Tarte brand. My final verdict: It is worth the money and a great value for all of the items that are included in the set! This will be one of my favorite beauty items for Fall & Winter!

Updated Britax B-Ready Stroller review!

Here's our updated review and final review showing the Britax B-ready with the infant carseat on the bottom. We've now ordered the second toddler seat for the bottom, and will be installing it this week. So the next follow-up review I do on the B-ready will have the two toddler seats!

This shows updated wear & tear on the stroller, as well as how it has held up with over a year of use:

The Girls' First Fire Alarm!

"*The floor! The floor! The floor is on fire...* no really, we need to come check your dance room to make sure the floor isn't on fire!"

So the girls got to experience their first (thankfully false) fire alarm the other day, however the end scenario was kind of funny... so I thought I would share!

I do Zumba classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, and the girls go to child care in the building while I'm at class as well. Monday seemed like a normal day, until 15 minutes before class was to be over - the building fire alarms started going off. The instructor went to turn off the music (because in Zumba we get LOUUUUUD) - and everyone started looking at each other to figure out what was going on, a few seconds later someone finally asked if we should go out in the hallway to figure out what was happening... and asking which exit door we should use.

At that point, my Mommy instincts kicked in and without turning around to respond to anyone I scooped up my things (conveniently placed next to the room door - I think I may subconsciously take this spot in the room for exactly this reason - I dunno??) and was the first person out of the classroom door running towards the stairs to get up to child care. I could hear the instructor behind me saying, "Well, I guess we're going that way." (LOL... also funny after the fact!)

I wasn't necessarily in a panic, but I was on high alert - because we didn't know what the situation was and whether it was a false alarm yet or if something was in fact going on in the building that we needed to evacuate from. I high-tailed it to child care, where a number of parents were also there getting their kids - and workers were trying to figure out how many arms they had available to carry children out whose parent hadn't gotten up there yet. I scooped up Cupcake, who I spotted right away and happened to be right near the half wall near the entrance to the child care room...

Then I realized that Peanut was still in one of the swings in the baby area! One of the workers behind the wall was going over to get her out right as I was coming into the room - and I pointed to Peanut as she pulled her out of the swing, letting the worker know she was mine & I would take Peanut as well to  free up her arms to gather up other children. All in all, it probably took less than 2 minutes to get up to the child care and get the girls out of the building... so I think that it went well as an alarm for preparedness.

I grabbed our stroller that was parked right outside of the child care - while holding both girls- and wobbly pushed everything & everyone outside, thankful for other kind gym members that were holding the exit doors open for people carrying children out.

We stood outside for a minute, I helped the girls get their jackets on and stowed them away in the stroller... after only a few minutes it was determined it was a false alarm and we could go back inside. After getting back into child care, I waited for a minute because I knew they would want to do a head count to make sure all of the kids were accounted for - and gauged the girls' reaction to the alarm... (The visual alarm system was still going off, but the noise part was silenced.) They both seemed fairly disinterested in the whole alarm thing and more preoccupied with getting back to playing with toys and/or getting back to their swing. So I re-signed them in and went back to class to finish up the end of class.

After being back in class for only a few minutes into the first song, maintenance arrived with a ladder and plunked it down in the middle of the room! (While we are still dancing.) He started fanning the fire alarm in the ceiling, and shook his head saying, "Yep." As he got down off of the ladder, he jokingly told the instructor to take it easy on us - because it was OUR ROOM that set the fire alarm off!

Apparently, a combination of the heat from the room and dust in the fire alarm vent had triggered the alarm and they had to get up there and clean it out during the class following ours. So I guess the Zumba ladies are so hot... we set the fire alarm off!

Hope you enjoyed our little anecdote from Monday... thanks to my hubby for telling me I should share - it is kind of a funny scenario for the girls' first fire alarm!

Playing a bit of catch up!

Well, things have been busy, busy, busy!! We've been swapping out cars, going to lessons, and getting things done around the house... all this has not left a lot of time for blogging unfortunately! I have continued to do videos for Stay at Home Mom September on my You Tube channel, beingmommywithstyle. I've also posted a few fun videos on Bags4Bubbles as well.

As a part of SAHM September, I have added additional videos on Finding Mommy Time & a Gymboree Clothing Haul!

On Bags4Bubbles, I've shared my new favorite item to collect... and a favorite makeup look.

I'm hoping things will get a bit more back to "normal" soon, as it seems like we've been so busy lately - I've hardly had time to even assess what we've been up to! I have been enjoying my additional Zumba classes at the gym and addtional activities for the girls.

In bag related news, I haven't had a wishlist for the longest time... and I think I finally have one forming! So as I think on it a bit more, I'll have to do an updated post, with what I *think* my wishlist for the future is going to be!

Independent Play Time - SAHM September

Independent play time is an important part of our schedule that we've worked on since the girls were around 6 months old. It starts in the play pen (or play yard) with a few toys and for a minimal amount of time - a great chance to clear out dishes from the sink or Swiffer the kitchen floor. Slowly the time amount builds and what started out as 10 or 15 minutes can grow to 30 minutes or even longer.

When they are younger, I found that I could be in an adjacent room where I could still see the play yard and my daughter would still play independently. This was important to me to not only let her gain the independence, but also get more comfortable with the idea myself. As she lengthened the time where she could play in the play yard, I could continue to add to chores that I could get done during the time that she was playing independently - and eventually it could even turn into a long enough period of time that you could get something essential done like take a shower.

For us, starting independent play time (IPT) early on really helped, because it eased the transition into the next phase of IPT once your child becomes a toddler... room time. Room time is a challenge all its own, as your child grows, they begin to explore their surroundings and want to expand their boundaries. Making sure their room is child proofed and a safe surrounding to have your toddler in for short periods of time independently is the foundation, once that is completed... you can begin your transition from IPT in the play yard, to independent play time in your child's room - or as we call it around our house, "room time".

Room time for us started early, before Cupcake's 2nd birthday actually... she was well adept at keeping herself entertained for up to a 45 minute period for IPT and was ready to drop her first nap. (When I had been taking my shower.) At this point, we decided to transition to toddler room time during her original first nap time and it has worked out great as far as time of day for us.

We started the transition over Christmas break while my husband was here to help with it. Once you begin the transition, it is like "starting all over again" - starting out with a short amount of time and slowly adding to it. We started out sitting in the room with her for the first week, then trialed room time for a short 5-10 minute period in the beginning - with one of us sitting outside of the door. That went well, so we slowly started adding to it and could move to other areas in the house on the second level. (Her baby monitor would be left on in the room of course, to hear the activity that was going on... and you could also use a video monitor during this time if you had one as well.)

Eventually, room time turned into the time on our schedule when Mommy was able to go take a shower, and also conveniently lines up with Peanut's morning nap time. (See my post on daily schedules for more about lining up a baby and toddler schedule together.

I'm very glad to have found out about the concept of independent play time and room time through our Babywise groups... these have worked out great for us and are an important part of our schedule each day. Do you do IPT or room time at your house?

Stay at Home Mom September!

I started a new video series on beingmommywithstyle called "Stay at Home Mom September" to address a number of SAHM issue videos that I had been thinking of doing for a while now! I'm excited for this new series, because I think it will be a great way to start dialogue on different SAHM issues and also help me develop on these topics as well.

Some ideas I'm planning on addressing in the series are SAHM cleaning routines, daytime schedules, independent play time, activities with babies & toddlers (at home or outside of the house), and more! Please let me know if you have any specific questions you'd like me to address during this September video series! I hope to have a new video posted every few days during the month of September, depending on what time allows me to film.

Here is the introduction video to the series, on SAHM daytime schedules around the house:

I've found that schedules really help us to stay focused and happy throughout the day. Both the kids and myself know what is coming up next in the schedule and it keeps our day moving.

Our sample schedule is posted here in Google Documents and you're welcome to peruse it, just please note back its origin to Mom's Got a Brand New Bag or beingmommywithstyle if you use it elsewhere... Thanks!

Coat Closet Reorganization

I quickly realized while looking in my coat closet the other day, that something was going to have to be done to make getting out the door now that we would have four people needing space in the coat closet, and all of the winter items that go along with that!

My before didn't really have much organization, some gloves and scarves were tossed into a basket - many of which were not the correct size or were not items we use the most often. I had hats stowed away in the girls' closets upstairs... which is not a convenient place when I'm trying to get out the door and have to run back upstairs for a hat to match their outfit. And we also had a number of just miscellaneous items stowed away in the closet, since it is our main area of extra storage on the first level of the house.

So I took to the closet, of making the winter items more accessible, and also shaping up the functionality of the closet.

Here's my before and after:

I really like the way it turned out! Each member of the family has their own separate bin, which helps to quickly find the size you need to find - and also I like that there is a place for boot storage on the bottom. I was finally able to fit our upright Dyson vacuum cleaner into a spot in one of our closets... and all of the cleaning supplies fits more neatly as well.

Now, baby, toddler, and adult hats, gloves, mittens, and scarves can be found in a matter of seconds - and I'm hoping it will help things go back into their spot when we are done using them as well!

Chicago Shopping Vlog & Haul!

We had a great time shopping Michigan Avenue in Chicago! I did just a brief mini vlog of the day... not much time for filming between the shopping and keeping up with babies! I did get a few cute shots though, Bella was especially excited about the horses and the stickers...

Our week of adventures!

This is a fairly week for us, going from one adventure to the next! This past Sunday, we visited Thomas the Tank Engine at the Illinois Railway Musuem in Union, Illinois! It was a great time, and Cupcake thought it was the coolest. (Peanut was pretty fond of the train ride as well!) The girls took their first train right, and it was a fun day.

We also did a quick vlog during the day to recap our visit:

Tomorrow we are headed into Chicago, our first shopping adventure in the city! We've been to the museums downtown, but this will be our first time hitting Michigan Avenue while we meet some friends that are visiting from Michigan. (The state!)

Wish us luck, I feel like at least for parking... I will need it!

Writing break, upcoming fun, & more!

Well, as you may have noticed... I've taken a bit of a writing break in August. I needed a bit of refocusing time, to refresh, and figure out how to redirect the blog for the rest of the year. I like to keep the blog a fine balance of personal and product oriented, but at times it seems to swing more one way than the other... At that point, I like to refocus and assess whether my balance is fine as it is, or whether I need to adjust my writing on the blog to include additional elements that I would like to be here!

I haven't blogged about family or the girls in quite some time, so coming up in September I would like to bring some more blogs about what has been going on with us around the house. Not that anything too exciting is happening... but I do like to look back on my blogs to see what the girls were up to from time to time as well.

Also, I do have some exciting projects coming up that I've been working on for the blog and You Tube - there will be a giveaway at the end of August, I started a series on my Bags4Bubbles You Tube channel today of handbag wear & tear/maintenance videos that have been highly requested as of late, and I also just completed a "day in the life" video that should be posted on beingmommywithstyle by the end of the week! I will be sharing those on the blog in the next week, and the giveaway will be live by the end of August!

So we've been keeping busy! Looking forward to sharing more of what we've been busy doing with you!
